COMOY'S Tigers Eye 483

Smoking process -if it goes correctly - is slow and almost static. Therefore probably "the animal subject" in marking of pipes is very moderate and conservative. There's of course such extreme shape as a "cobra" (very effectively implemented by Gasparini). There's Falcon, there is a number of sparrows, roosters, geese and owls. You can meet horses, elephants and moths. Not so many cats: Canadian "Cat's Paw", "cat's" logos at Brishuta and Ken, and a couple of lions.

Comoy's with its variety of shapes and models decided to occupy a "tigerish" niche. Definitely we couldn't pass by their "Tigers eye" pipe. We suppose the reason for being a "tiger" comes from this grain. The pipe is approximately from the 1960-70s, was very lightly smoked and remains in all its beauty.

The pipe markings are "COMOY'S \ TIGERS EYE", "MADE \ IN \ LONDON \ ENGLAND", "483". The length is 13.5 cm, bowl's hight is 4.2 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 2.6 cm and 2.1 cm. The depth is 3.5 cm and this pipe weights 31 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter.

BEWLAY Popular 01

What's good about English tobacconists is the possibility to get a pipe of a great brand for very democratic price in theirs shops. On the other hand it's sometimes quite hard to say who actually made a specific pipe.

As an example here's an excellent canadian Bewlay pipe. The Bewlay house was supplied by Charatan, Barling and Loewe. In our opinion it could be a product of Charatan or Barling (judging from the shape and the stem's specifics). Even eminent gurus are unable to say more. So our opinions are dispersed 50 / 50.

However this aura of riddle makes the pipe even more attractive. And don't forget its magnificent grain and very small weight! Undoubtedly recommended!

The pipe markings are "Bewlay \ POPULAR", "LONDON MADE 0\ 01". The length is 14.0 cm, bowl's hight is 4.2 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 2.7 cm and 2.0 cm. The depth is 3.6 cm and this pipe weights 21 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem.

CHARATAN'S MAKE Special 321

In 1863 Charatan's family left Russia,  and we can take a tumble why. Almost 100 years later their business was sold to Mr. Herman Lane, who at his time escaped from Germany (and we are pretty sure why). Hence the Golden era of the most creative and valuable English pipe brand began. At the same time neither Russia nor Germany have got such a great success in the pipe business.

The Lane era pipes (typically with the circled "L") are still the most popular and appreciated. We are glad to offer
one of them today.

The pipe markings are "(L)", "CHARATAN'S MAKE \ LONDON. ENGLAND \ SPECIAL"  and "321". The lenghts is 15.1 cm, bowl's hight is 4.8 cm. External and internal diameters of the bowl are 2.8 cm and 2.1 cm. The depth is 4.0 cm and this pipe weights 37 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The tobacco chamber is cleaned till wood, the stem has been recovered.

HARCOURT (Dunhill + Preben Holm)

In 1940s a Danish startup invented the Stanwell brand -  name that should have resembled highly popular English products. 30 years later the worldwide known Dunhill had to invite Danish masters to resist an invasion of freehands and elegant Danish style pipes from Denmark. So Danish pipe makers firmly got on feet in 30 years and overtook the most serious opponent in his den! Vikings! :-)

Our today's pipe was made by Preben Holm, even the grade mark style is specific
for this master. Therefore the pipe is interesting twice: as the Dunhill product and as the Preben Holm's child.

The pipe marking is "C \ HARCOURT \ HAND CARVED \ IN DENMARK". The lenghts is 14.2 cm, bowl's hight is 6.0 cm. External diameters of the bowl are 6.0 and 5.0 cm, internal diameter is 2.2 cm. The depth is 5.0 cm and this pipe weights 58 gr. Briar, vulcanite stem, no filter. The pipe is completed with the original box and a puch.
